Our Terms of Ethics are the guiding principles that shape everything we do—from how we engage with creators, to the kind of content we choose to publish. They help us build a space where creativity thrives alongside accountability, and where dignity isn’t just honored—it’s required.

This ethical framework exists to:

Protect the dignity of our contributors and the people in their stories
Guide our editorial team in making transparent, intentional decisions
Create a safe, inclusive space for real connection
Preserve the emotional and intellectual integrity of published work
Ensure that sensitive topics are handled with care and consciousness

These terms aren’t rigid policies—they’re an invitation to storytelling that uplifts, deepens, and transforms.

🌍 Who We Are

Phoenix Nest is a humanity-centered, Black-woman-owned creative ecosystem. We celebrate voices across age, gender, orientation, culture, ability, and experience. We accept submissions from around the world and welcome those in multiple languages (as long as they include a verified English translation).

We believe in editorial equity, representation, and writing that reflects the realness of life—beyond categories, expectations, or norms.

We’re here to amplify truth—not sensationalize it.
We champion nuance, emotional honesty, and the messiness of being human.
We hold space for joy, grief, transformation, and the unexpected lessons in between.

Every story is reviewed with these questions in mind:

→ Is it necessary?
→ Is it told with care?

✅ Our Content Review Process

Every submission goes through two stages:

Initial Review – We check for alignment with our values and core themes
Deeper Read – We evaluate emotional tone, sensitivity, originality, and clarity

Submissions that don’t align may receive feedback or may be respectfully declined. Either way, we approach every creator and every story with care and honesty.

📝 Common Reasons for Rejection

Content misaligned with our values or tone
Inaccurate, sensationalized, or unverifiable claims
Similarity to previously published content
Mishandling of sensitive material without proper framing
Submissions that generalize, stigmatize, or misrepresent complex topics

We offer feedback when possible and always encourage re-submission once edits have been made.

💔 On Difficult or Sensitive Topics

We do publish vulnerable, complex, and emotionally raw stories—but only when they’re treated with:

Empathy over shock
Consent over assumption
Truth over trauma porn

Submissions that ask questions, not just share answers

⚖️ Political & Cultural Discourse

We welcome reflections on how political and social systems affect personal lives.
However, we do not publish partisan endorsements or campaign messaging.

Tell us how your lived experience intersects with the world—but keep the story rooted in your own voice and journey.

🚫 What We Will Not Publish

We do not accept content that promotes:

Hate speech or discrimination of any kind
Racism, misogyny, transphobia, homophobia, xenophobia, fatphobia, or ableism
Toxic masculinity, misgendering, or religious shaming
Animal cruelty or glorified violence

We reserve the right to remove or block contributors who violate these principles.

🔄 Revision & Retraction Policy

If content is ever found to be harmful, misaligned, or factually incorrect, we will:

Correct or update it
Retract it entirely if necessary
Reach out to the original contributor and any impacted parties
Ensure accountability without shame

👥 Community Conduct

We ask our community to engage respectfully—whether commenting, sharing, or interacting on social platforms.
All feedback should be grounded in curiosity, not combat.
We moderate spaces to ensure safety, and we welcome dialogue over debate.
